DALLAS – (June 23, 2008) – Essilor of America, Inc., the leading manufacturer of ophthalmic lenses, announces Varilux Ellipse 360º lenses are now available in Thin&Lite® 1.74 high-index material. For the first time, the most advanced short-corridor lens design, Varilux Ellipse 360°, has been combined with the thinnest and flattest material, Thin&Lite 1.74, creating the thinnest short-corridor lens available.

“We are excited to be able to combine the only progressive lenses scientifically proven to work better in shorter frames with the most cosmetically appealing lens material developed exclusively for mid-to-high prescription wearers,” said Carl Bracy, Essilor vice president of marketing. “Varilux Ellipse 360º lenses in Thin&Lite 1.74 are another example of Essilor’s ongoing commitment to expand options for eyecare professionals [ECPs] and their patients.”

Varilux Ellipse 360º lenses in Thin&Lite 1.74 offer a 22 percent wider distance zone than any other short corridor PAL, reduced peripheral distortion through Varilux 360° OptimizationSM and, in Thin&Lite 1.74, are up to 50 percent thinner and 50 percent lighter than standard 1.50 plastic lenses.

Beginning July 15, Essilor is proud to offer Varilux Ellipse 360º lenses in Thin&Lite 1.74 available with Crizal Avancé with Scotchgard Protector or Crizal Alizé® in the following specifications:
